In My Sleep
By Anne Stott

I never wrote you a love song, it wasn't our fate
I only told the sad stories and even those too late
We rode that bull and got bucked off though we made it to round nine
And I miss you in my sleep from time to time

I see strangers everywhere I wander dark alleys
That lion you couldn't tame laid down in a wooded valley
I suppose the day will come when I'll know how to say goodbye
Then I miss you in my sleep from time to time

Once I knew a few things for certain and for sure
Your eyes could show me beauty your heart could hold my cure
I counted on your innocence to always keep me nigh
And I miss you in my sleep from time to time

There's been a planetary shift, the cosmos realigned
No one sent a telegram I never got the sign
All that was made to serve has broken through the line
And I miss you in my sleep from time to time

Now I live at earth's end, surrounded by the sea
There's light coming from everywhere and statues on the beach
I dance our unfinished waltz and worry about time
And I miss you in my sleep from time to time

There's more that I could say of this hand that you've forced
I throw stones at boulders and I carry a burned out torch
I scrape the barrel endlessly not sure what I hope to find
And I miss you in my sleep from time to time

The next turn looks dangerous the one after that unknown
Justice was never served and cupid lost his bow
The sun is crescent on the hill the flowers bow and sigh
And I miss you in my sleep from time to time

People say that there's hope some people say there's truth
People say there's happiness and life after you
I never have lived much by what others have divined
So I'll miss you in my sleep from time to time
